2004 June 6: From Woofstock to Leslieville: a pizza pocket in the eye
Over on In-Public’s aboot page they try to define street photography. To me, they don’t. You leave the page as confused as when you landed there. I’ve always described street photography as a snapshot taken in a public space, whether it’s a street or an art gallery, but not break of trees in Algonquin Park.
My FZ-10, which takes a second or two to focus, longer if I try to do it manually, is frustrating as hell to use for crowd photography. If I have to react within a second to try to get the shot and need less time to press the shutter button, I won’t get it. If I have maybe three or five seconds, I can get the shot. Yesterday saw me leave Woofstock with lots of pictures, none of them terribly exciting, and finding the keepers on the walk home where there was more time to react.
